Reports: Indiana DC Bryant Haines lands lucrative deal
Indiana University Defensive Coordinator Bryant Haines instructs players during fall practice at the Mellencamp Pavilion at Indiana University on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024. Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines was rewarded for overseeing the country's No. 2 scoring defense, landing one of the biggest contracts among assistant coaches, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.
Haines, 40, whose defense ranked sixth in the country in yards allowed this season, reportedly agreed to a new-three deal, his second contract since he and head coach Curt Cignetti joined the Hoosiers' staff from James Madison in 2024.
A 2024 finalist for the Broyles Award given to the country's top assistant, Haines has also coached alongside Cignetti -- who received a new contract this fall and is one of the nation's top-paid head coaches -- at Elon and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Indiana (13-0), the Big Ten champion and No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, awaits the winner of next Friday's Oklahoma-Alabama semifinal in a quarterfinal matchup on New Year's Day at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.
